Numbers of Overseas Students by Country.

Vietnamese and Chinese are the most common nationalities of overseas students. Many overseas students are enrolled through study programs with partner institutions, or enrolled privately after graduating from Japanese-language training schools in Japan. The majority of overseas students are from Asia. In addition to Vietnam and China, there are many students from Taiwan, Korea, Mongolia, and Malaysia. In the past, there were also short-term students from North America.
Hagoromo University of International Studies currently has exchange agreements in place with a total of 24 universities and other educational institutions located in 10 different countries/regions. The university organizes overseas training and exchange (for Japanese students) and it hosts overseas students from the 24 affiliated institutions.

Why did you decide to come and study in Japan?
  • I loved Japanese anime and I gradually became interested in computer graphics and animation.
  • I was majoring in Japanese language at my parent university, but I wanted to study and experience Japanese culture.
  • I came to realize that to get a good job in Japan it’s necessary to study at university there.

Numbers of Overseas Students by Gender.

Generally, female overseas students slightly outnumber males. This is true of both faculties.
Students in the same faculty have plenty of opportunity to come in contact with each other, for example, when they take classes together. There are also meetings for overseas students of each nationality, allowing them to communicate with more senior students from their own country.

What do you usually study?
  • Management classes. I’m studying corporate organization theory, strategic marketing, and so on.
  • I’m making clothes in apparel training classes, and I’m studying interior design.
  • I take information technology classes and programming practical classes, in which I mainly study the Java language.
  • I study Japanese language to prepare for level N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test in seminars by Professor Yoshimura, the president of the university. I really like his classes. I find him humorous and kind, and I learn a lot about Japanese culture.

What’s the cost of living in Osaka?

The most common figures varied from JPY 50,000-100,000, with an average of about JPY 86,000.
As the university is located in Sakai, away from the center of Osaka City, the rental market is relatively affordable.
Many students study while working part-time, but Hagoromo University of International Studies has a scholarship system for international students to ensure the best experience during their exchange period.

Hagoromo University of International Studies is located in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Sakai is Osaka’s second largest city in population and area. Sakai is a city rich in history.
It contains the the world’s largest grave or kofun, that of Emperor Nintoku, which is located in the Mozu Tombs. Sakai is deeply rooted in traditional industries like tea ceremonies and cutlery.
It is also a well connected area with good access to both urban areas and Kansai International Airport.
